TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team ended their weekend on the road with a 3-1 loss against the York University Lions on Sunday afternoon.
The Bold faced York earlier this season and secured an exciting win at TMU's home opener.
Going into the first period,
Alexia Stratos took the net for the second time this season.
The Bold were on the attack immediately, but a quick turnover allowed the Lions to score their first goal.Â
Emma Macgregor wasted no time providing an answer for the Bold as she fired the puck a minute later into the York net, tying up the game.
Heading into the first intermission the score was tied at one.
Early in the second period, York forward Julianna Duma scored to give the Lions the lead.
The second period was delayed due to a major injury to a York player on the ice and the Bold served a five-minute major penalty for boarding.
Both teams traded minor penalties for the remainder of the period, and a shot that hit the cross bar and went in extended the lead to 3-1 for York.
Going into the second intermission, the Bold were down by two, but all their focus was on capitalizing on chances in the third.
Both teams continued to play a hard-fought battle, and the Bold got the opportunity for a five-on-three in the last seven minutes of the third period.
Head coach
Lisa Haley took a timeout to prepare her team, and they fired at the net as much as possible.
The Bold tried to use their powerplay to cut the lead in half, but with the clock winding down, there wasn't enough time.
York held off the Bold until the final buzzer.
The Bold will be back at home on October 25Â to play the Gee-Gees. Watch the game on OUA.tv at 6:15 p.m.
