NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team dropped a contest against the Nipissing Lakers, 7-3. The team traveled to North Bay to play in their first road game of the season.
Payton Kerr recorded a multi-goal game, scoring two goals in the second period.
The Bold started the game slowly but picked up the momentum after the Lakers fired off a few close shots on net.
Emily Baxter brought the energy and scored a stunning breakaway goal to grab the lead 1-0.
The Lakers continued to put on offensive pressure and snagged a goal with 1:56 remaining in the first frame, tying the game 1-1.

Lauren Griffin made several saves during the first, protecting the net well. The Lakers put up a total of 23 shots on goal in the first but only placed one of them past Griffin.
The back-and-forth play continued into the second period. Kerr scored a powerplay goal 1:55 into the second to claim the lead 2-1. Nipissing was quick to respond with their own power-play goal, making the game even at 2-2.
Both sides continued to make offensive efforts. With 4:25 remaining in the second, Kerr scored her second goal off a rebound. Mirroring TMU once again, Nipissing scored at the end of the second frame to even the score at 3-3.
The Lakers dominated the ice in the third, eager to claim the lead. TMU tried to score but couldn't get the puck in the net. They accumulated eight shots on goal in the third period, just two fewer than Nipissing, but couldn't finish on those scoring opportunities.
The Lakers obtained four goals in the last stretch, with one of them coming in the last second of the game to seal their 7-3 win.
The Bold will travel back to Toronto and face off once again against the York University Lions, whom the Bold beat in their season opener. Puck drop is set for 11:15 a.m on Sunday, October 20.
