Grigorev records first career hat trick in dominant win over Nipissing

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team got themselves back in the win column on Friday evening, scoring four-unanswered goals to power past the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay.

The Bold's Russian connection helped carry the visitors over the line in their dominant 6-2 win on Friday night with Daniil Grigorev leading the team in goals (3) and Artem Duda picking up his highly-anticipated first career OUA goal.

TMU struck twice on the man-advantage en route to their 15th win of the campaign while Kyle Bollers and Aaron Hyman rounded out the scoring for the Bold throughout the third period.

On the other side of the puck, Kai Edmonds pieced together a memorable performance despite surrendering a pair of goals to the Lakers in the opening frame.

Stretching the width of the crease several times to deny the Lakers attempts at goal, the second-year netminder stopped 23 of 25 shots to pick up the win.

Both teams traded goals in the opening 7:33 of the contest, with Grigorev opening the scoring with his third goal in as many games and Nipissing's Kyle Foreman subsequently answering back on the Lakers two-man advantage just minutes later.

David Campbell tacked on a second goal for the home side before the first period came to a halt, beating Edmonds above the shoulder to turn his team's slow start into a quick lead.

Grigorev - who opened the scoring for TMU just 1:55 into the first period - added another tally to his nightly total in the early goings of the middle frame to catapult the Bold back onto level terms.

Duda blasted his first goal as a member of the Bold with 1:37 remaining in the second period to throw the Bold back into the lead. The Moscow native entered Friday's matchup with four assists in his opening six OUA games and has constantly brought a lethal edge to TMU's defensive corps ever since his debut with the group on January 6th.

Bollers and Hyman scattered a pair of insurance markers throughout the final frame, while Grigorev slammed home his third of the contest for his first-career OUA hat trick to emphatically seal the deal on the Bold's first road victory since November of 2023.

The group will look to make it two wins in a row away from the MAC on Saturday evening when they get set to take on the Lakers at 7:30 p.m.
