Bold offense cools off in loss to Ridgebacks

After putting up seven goals in midweek action, the offense ran dry for Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold on Saturday night, falling 4-1 to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in their first trip back to Oshawa in five years.

Daniil Grigorev scored the Bold's only goal of the contest with 44 seconds remaining in regulation and the damage already done.

Ryley Lanther led the way for the Ridgebacks with three goals, securing his first hat trick of the season with an empty net tally in the late stages of the third frame.

Marko Jakovljevic recorded a game-high four points in the Ridgebacks win on Saturday, teaming up three times with Lanther to help his side coast past the nationally-ranked Bold.

TMU netminder Ryan Dugas was outperformed in goal by William Desmarais who stood tall between the pipes for the Ridgebacks, stopping all but one of the 23 shots he faced through three periods of play.

On the other end of the puck, the Bold lacked conviction through several stretches of Saturday's contest and failed to cash in on a pair of man-advantages.

After coming out of the opening frame unscathed, the visitors surrendered a pair of goals in both the second and third period before breaking through in the final seconds of regulation.

Sitting in second place in the highly-competitive OUA West, the Bold will look to get back on track next weekend with a pair of road games against the Nippising Lakers.

Puckdrop with the North Bay side is set for 7:30 p.m on Friday.
