Garvey posts season-high in TMU's late comeback over Windsor

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball squad topped the Windsor Lancers in a low-scoring affair on Friday evening, rallying late in the fourth quarter to take the contest 45-41.

First-year guard Catrina Garvey posted a season-high 24 points in the victory and played a vital role in grabbing more than half of TMU's points on the road.

Corrynn Parker finished second for the Bold in the point department on Friday, draining eight points - all of which coming from the field - including the Bold's game-winning basket with just 34 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Although the Bold came out of their contest on Friday with their first win of 2024, the group could not have started their match with the Lancers any slower, racking up a season-worst 18 points heading into halftime.

TMU repeatedly found themselves struggling to penetrate the Lancers defense throughout the first pair of quarters, turning the ball over 13 times and failing to land a single three throughout the second frame.

Heading into Friday's contest with the Lancers, the Bold were ranked fourth best in the OUA in turnovers, averaging 14.3 through 11 contests this season. That number was nearly matched before the halftime whistle even rang, emphasizing the group's struggles to start the road affair.

Throwing down 11 points in the opening half, Garvey continued to lead the way for the Bold in the quarters to follow. Her season-high performance would be personified in just a single play during the final minute of the third quarter, with the rookie spinning past a Lancers defender on the fast-break en route to securing her team-leading 18th point of the evening.

Following a pedestrian third, Garvey would also come up with a clutch three to bring the score to 41-40 late in the fourth quarter and finished the evening shooting 44% from beyond the arc.

With Parker completed the comeback in the late stages of the fourth quarter, the Bold secured their 11th win of the campaign and got back to their winning ways after suffering a loss to Brock last Friday.

TMU will look to add another victory to their season when they head over to Western on Friday. Tip off with the Mustangs is set for 6:00 p.m.
