Bold duel with Excalibur, earn clean sheet win

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team battled to a positive outcome against the Trent Excalibur on Sept. 30.

Challenging the Excalibur on their home soil, the Bold pulled through with a 2-0 win, leaving them with four wins this season and holding onto their third place spot in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East division.

The first 20 minutes of the game passed by with the Excalibur strongly defending against the visiting Bold.

It was in the 22nd minute where an assist from defender Colin Gander led forward Luca Di Marco to find the back of the net.

Merely minutes later, a yellow card and foul on the Excalibur won the blue and gold a penalty kick. Fourth-year Chris Campoli took the opportunity and scored another goal bringing the score in Peterborough to 2-0. This became Campoli's fourth goal of his first season with the Bold.

After halftime, the Bold picked up the pace, playing a strong offence. A shot on goal by Bold's Jaylen Drummond was saved by the Excalibur goal-keeper.

With tension rising, the Trent team was issued a yellow card in the 90th minute of the game. The team earned a total of five cautions this afternoon.

Three more shots taken by Bold's Campoli, Gander and Kaostubh Bolla were left unsuccessful. The Bold still managed to hang onto their lead bringing the game to a final score of 2-0.

The team was able to secure an away win, making this their second consecutive win after last week's game against the Royal Military College.

The squad is on their way back home to rest up before their game against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Oct.7. Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m at Downsview Park.
