TMU swept by Lions to close out weekend

The losing woes continued for the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold baseball squad on Sunday after being sweped by the York Lions in two games. It was TMU's first loss to the Lions since 2021, winning eight straight contests up until Sunday's initial walk off loss.

After jumping to an early 3-0 lead in the day's initial showing, the Lions stormed back in the final three innings to secure their second win of the season. With the winning run on the bases, York's Darcy D'Souza smashed a double over the head of left fielder Josh Thomas to clinch his side's come-from-behind victory.

Six of TMU's batters went hitless in the losing effort, with catcher Ryan Ricci being one of the few players to find his stride offensively after recording three hits in the game.

The Bold would go on to drop Sunday's second contest by a 10-5 score, struggling once again to find any offense after the fifth inning. The Lion's second win of the day was highlighted by prolonged innings that left TMU on the field for long portions of the game.

The Bold have now dropped four consecutive games since sweeping the national champions last Sunday and are looking to harvest some much-needed momentum in their final weekend of the regular season. The group will host the University of Toronto (UofT) Varsity Blues and the Brock Badgers to close out the 2023 campaign.
