TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold badminton team hosted the 2023 OUA championship at Kerr Hall this weekend and finished in seventh place.
The Bold dropped their first three pool play ties to McMaster (7-3), York (10-0), and Waterloo (9-1), but rounded out the competition with two straight wins. TMU concluded pool play with a 7-3 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks which put the Bold fourth in their pool, earning a bye to the seventh place match on Sunday morning.
TMU had another solid performance in their final tie, earning a 7-3 victory over Guelph to finish the competition in seventh.
Tanish Labha was the top men's singles performer for the Bold, posting a 2-1 record throughout the championship. Jane Zhou was the lone female to earn a singles victory for the Bold, while she also partnered with
Nicole Chiu for a victory in women's doubles action.
Ivan Li earned two victories with two different partners in men's doubles for the Bold. Li and Chiu were both unbeaten in mixed doubles action.
