Badgers blank Bold in low scoring tilt

THOROLD, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold lost 1-0 against the Brock Badgers in a battle of the goaltenders on Saturday afternoon at Canada Games Park.

An early Badgers third-period goal from Madeline Nicholson stood as the only marker in the matinee matchup.

Kenzie Harmison posted 28 saves in the shutout win for Brock. Meanwhile, for the Bold, Alexia Stratos turned aside 19 out of the 20 shots she faced.

TMU controlled the pace of play for the majority of the opening frame as the blue and gold put up nearly half of their total shots in the first period with 13. However, Harmison had their number — as she would for the rest of the night.

After a relatively even second period, the Badgers drew first blood in the final frame. Less than two minutes into the period, a costly turnover inside the Bold defensive zone went in favour of the Badgers as Nicholson received a pass from Lauren Diks and snapped a shot above Stratos' glove side.

The Bold pushed for the equalizer throughout the remainder of the frame and came close with three power play looks, but they could not solve Harmison and fell to the Badgers 1-0.

With the loss, the Bold sit firmly in the final playoff spot in the OUA East division and are one point behind the Queen's Gaels for third place.

TMU has two games remaining on their regular season schedule with the first coming against crosstown rivals — and potential playoff opponent — the Toronto Varsity Blues. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. next Thursday at Varsity Arena. Following that, the Bold close out their season at home with an important matchup against the Gaels next Saturday.
