First-year Parker breaks out to blow Bold past Marauders

Four members of the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball squad picked up double-digit point totals Wednesday night to outscore the McMaster Marauders 71-65.

Hailey Franco-DeRyck, Kaillie Hall and Jayme Foreman all touched double-digits on the scoresheet to help power the Bold to a third consecutive win. First-year forward Corrynn Parker broke out for a team-leading 22 points and  in the winning effort.

It's just her third game in the OUA.

"I wasn't really creating my own shots, my teammates were finding me," mentioned Parker following her monster night offensively. "[Parker] has been great. Honestly she is someone I can count on," added Franco-DeRyck.

The Bold used the first quarter to their advantage last weekend against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, thrashing them in the opening outing better than in any other frame to secure consecutive wins on home soil.

That quick start made its presence felt in TMU's opening quarter victory over the Marauders on Wednesday night, and powered the offense to new heights as the game progressed. Parker started the night off scorching hot from beyond the arc, throwing down consecutive triples to put the Bold offense into gear.

Parker would tack on another three before the end of the quarter to compliment her team-high five rebounds and a red-hot 70% success rate from distance in the first. McMaster's Jenna Button rivaled the Bold rookie for much of the opening quarter, failing to miss from three-point territory and recording eight of her team's 17 points through ten minutes of play.

Foreman helped distance the Bold from the Marauders as well, registering a pair of assists on the Bold's first three baskets of the second quarter and draining a triple of her own.

One frame removed from posting a season-high nine-point quarter, Parker added seven more tallies to her midweek total to lead the Marauders at half by an eight-point score.

TMU's relentless arsenal of attack would exhibit very little change as the home side marched towards victory in the second half, with game-high individuality forging the path forward for the Bold.

Haley Fedick got off to a fast start in the third quarter, draining seven points - three of which coming from well outside the basket - to keep the momentum swaying in TMU's favour. Foreman and Parker continued their dominance late into the third frame as the Marauders' success from beyond the arc went silent.

Six points is the closest the visitor's would come in catching a Bold team fueled to the brim with high-octane offense. Button caused the Bold to flinch with her team-leading nine-point final quarter, but the damage would already be done for the home side.

With the win, TMU improves to a perfect 3-0 record on the regular season as they turn their focus to Saturday's 1:00 p.m contest with the visiting Brock Badgers.

The last time the Bold took three straight games to open up their season, they won the U Sports National Championship in 2022.
