KINGSTON, Ont. - The TMU Bold women's hockey team takes the ice in Kingston, Ontario for a pair of games against Queen's this weekend.
Queen Gaels immediately took to the offence on Saturday night as the Bold had to defend on an early penalty kill. In the past the Bold tend to outdo the Gaels at home and away, and tonight was no different.
Lauren Griffin made numerous saves against the Gaels, and in the last minute of the first, Griffin saved a shot off a two-on-one rush, keeping the Bold in the game.
A scoreless first period gave the Bold the boost of energy they needed to take over the game in the second
The Gaels currently stand in 5th in the East division while the Bold hold third place. Both teams equally held the puck, but the Bold had a few breakthrough chances tallying up 15 shots on goal.
The Bold had a few powerplay opportunities but weren't able to get the puck through the Gaels zone.
Both teams were pushing for the first goal of the game, but by the end of the second, no one had scored.
Going into the third, the Bold hoped to make some changes to beat the Gaels to the puck. Hungry for the first goal, the Bold fought hard, as they depended on Griffin for her many saves.
Captain Emily Baxter scored the first goal of the night giving the Bold the lead in the third.
The Gaels quickly respond with a goal, and this close game headed into some three on three action in overtime.
In no time, the Gaels gained control of the puck and scored the game winning goal. The Bold will take on the Gaels one more time tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. looking for redemption.
