Game Recap: Hockey (W) | | Mario Russo

Baxter's marker not enough to lift Bold past Gaels

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team fell to the Queen's Gaels earlier today, losing by a 3-1 score despite forging a comeback late in the final frame.

Emily Baxter registered her second goal in as many games to help bring the Bold within striking distance of the Gaels after falling behind 2-0 in the second period. The fourth-year forward has now scored four goals in her last four games and has been a bright spot in the Bold's offensive plans so far this season.

Queen's broke the game open in the late stages of the middle stanza with Alyson Reeves picking the top-right corner of the Bold goal. In the minutes to follow, Reeves would also connect with teammate Mikayla Cranny to help double her side's lead over the Bold.

Queen's quick response carried over into the third period as well, with the home side regaining their two-goal cushion just 16 seconds after the Bold pulled within reach. Rebecca Thompson would be credited with putting the nail into TMU's coffin on the final tally, poking home a loose puck within the crease to secure back-to-back wins for the Gaels.

The Bold have now lost six of their opening seven games on the season and look to turn the page in the four remaining home games before the winter break.

The group will return to action next Friday when they face off against the Nippising Lakers. Puck drop from the MAC is set for 6:00 p.m.
