LONDON, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team was unable to close out a late 4-3 lead and fell 5-4 to the Western Mustangs in overtime on Thursday night.
The Bold opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the contest off the stick of Connor Bowie but then surrendered three first period goals to trail after the first period.Â
After entering the third period trailing by one, Patrick Fellows tied the game just 4:23 into the third, before ultimately Cole Resnick gave the Bold the 4-3 lead with just over seven minutes to play. However, Western's Matthew MacDougall tied the score with 3:30 to play before Franco Sproviero netted the overtime winner.
Despite the loss, the Bold still managed to pick up a point — their first in three games. The team is now is 13-6-2 this season.
Elijah Roberts recorded an assist on Ryan Wells first period tally — Roberts eighth point in his last five games. The second-year Brampton, Ont. product has points in all but one of the team's five games in 2023.
The Bold remain without forward Kyle Bollers, the OUA's leading point-getter, and goaltender Kai Edmonds, who is fourth in the OUA with a 2.18 goals-against-average and sports a 12-1-1 record thus far this season. Both Bollers and Edmonds are representing Canada the 2022 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. Canada's men's hockey team is set to take on Kazakhstan on Saturday morning with a trip to the gold medal game on the line.
While Bollers and Edmonds are focused on the task at hand in Lake Placid, TMU will quickly turn their attention to tomorrow night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Bold are back on home ice, where they will play host to Windsor Lancers in the annual Winter Homecoming game. The matchup will see two of the top-three teams in the OUA West division square off, as Windsor enters the weekend with a 14-3-2 record — good for tops in the division.Â
The contest is the first true Winter Homecoming game since Jan. 17, 2020, due to COVID-19.
Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
