Bold celebrate 4-0 victory against Excalibur in late domination

TORONTO - While a lone goal by midfielder Alia Serapiglia opened scoring in the second half, the TMU Bold's three goal domination in the last 20 minutes was the highlight of the game. The 4-0 victory against the Trent Excalibur will add to the team's 2-1 record early into the season.

"I think we played with passion in the second half," Serapiglia said. "We knew we should've had those first three goals back in the first half so we were determined to get the ball into the back of the net."

"At that point, we didn't have anything to lose. We'd had so many chances already and we had to just put them away, which we did in the second," Savannah Robinson added.

While both teams remained scoreless in the first half, Enoyaa 'Yaya' Acheampong stood out. The forward gave her teammates passing options, while TMU controlled possession of the ball down the pitch.

At the 33rd minute, Acheampong spotted the Bold's first opportunity at the net and passed to Aalayah Lully, who took a shot from deep inside the box, which landed right into the opposing goalkeeper's hands.

The first goal of the game happened in the 49th minute.

Veteran forward Kayleigh McKye made a well-aimed pass from the side of Trent's net to midfielder Alia Serapiglia, who positioned herself in front to knock the ball directly in and put the Bold in the lead.

TMU's second goal came from Ivymae Perez, when the midfielder received the ball from Vittoria Gallivan and scored with a clean kick into an open net in the 69th minute.

Building on the momentum, a shot by Journey Lashley landed into Trent's goal, but was called offside and a decided no-goal. Perez came back within a minute, however, to net two goals in three minutes, and the Bold's third.

To finish off the game, with less than 15 minutes left, Serapiglia scored the team a fourth goal.

"Ivy's quality is on the ball, with good decision-making…I'm glad she's playing with so much confidence because she can score goals," interim head coach John Yacou said.

The team will take to the pitch next weekend to face off against the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Ontario Tech on Sunday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. for both games, and you can watch them live at Downsview Park or stream the game on OUA.tv.
