Perez scores again but Bold fall to Ravens

TORONTO — Despite threatening with a flurry of chances in stoppage time, the Bold women's soccer team was unable to find an equalizer as they fell 2-1 to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon at Downsview Park.

Second-year Ravens right back Taylor Saunders was able to find her way onto the ball amongst a scramble in the box after a corner kick, then found the back of the net — a goal that would stand as the difference in the match.

The win improved the Ravens record to 3-0-1 as they moved four points clear of the Bold, who fell to 2-2-0.

Despite the loss, Bold forward Ivymae Perez recorded her fifth goal of the season. After earning a penalty in the 52nd minute, the reigning Bold Athlete of the Week was able to take care of business herself from the spot to tie the match up at 1-1. Perez — who has scored in all four of the Bold's games this season — moved into a tie for second in the OUA in goals.

"She is a big player to our offensive threat," said Bold head coach John Yacou. "She's crucial to us."

Despite the goal, Perez was quick to point out "if we don't get any points, it doesn't really mean anything to me."

Perez's penalty was a quick response to the Ravens, who opened the scoring just two minutes prior.

A nifty passing play saw Lauren Illman spot Salena Devellils streaking down the left wing. Devellis went alone in on goal and made no mistake to lift Carleton in the lead.

With the Ravens leading 2-1 in the late stages of the match and calls for the final whistle coming from the Ravens bench coming, the Bold threatened with a pair of chances. Aalayah Lully nearly delivered in the clutch, but a header off a corner and a screamer from inside the box were both stopped by Ravens keeper Chloe Lachance-Soulard — her best stops of the afternoon.

"We had good chances near the end. Could we have done better? Yes," said Yacou. "There was a good fight, so there's a positive for a game like this."

"We gave everything we got — we just could not convert," said Perez. "We worked hard. We worked hard as a team."

"If we had an extra 10 minutes, maybe we would've bagged one in."

The Bold won't have to wait long to try and bounce back. They are back on home turf Sunday afternoon, as they play host to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., as the Bold take on the Ridgebacks for the second time this season — they won 1-0 in Oshawa earlier this season.

"We have to move on from this game early. We know that it won't be an easy game, especially given that we beat them in Oshawa. We have to be up for it. It's not going to be an easy game, that's for sure," said Yacou.

"We're trying to brush this off right now and focus on the next game. We're ready for them. We're ready to get another three points," said Perez.
