Rams earn series sweep of Trent, head into Senior Night with momentum

TORONTO - The Rams women's volleyball team is ending this season with a bang, after Friday night's 3-0 win against the Trent Excalibur. This was the team's second last game of the season, and they put up a performance that fans will remember through to next year.

The Rams wasted no time in the first set. Powerful kills from Scarlett Gingera and strong blocks from senior Samantha Cyrille had the team leading by double digits by the technical timeout. The Rams kept the energy throughout the set and won the first 25-16.

The second set saw the same energy. With the Rams dominating on the court through to the technical, first-year libero Mary Ann Rioflorido dove to keep the ball at play, and the team scored the point. At the end of the second, the team had won 25-6.

While the Excalibur were loud in volume, the Rams let their playing performance speak for itself. The Rams closed out the final set, sweeping the series against Trent 25-18 with a humble confidence.

"My team makes it easy for me to go out and play for them," Rioflorido said, after the game. "The support they've given me has made the transition from high school to university very easy."

The team's seniors took Rioflorido under their wing from the jump, she says. Saturday's game will include a dedication to the graduating athletes, as the season nears its end.

"We're going to be saying goodbye to seniors who have come from different recruiting classes, and they've had a massive impact on the program," head coach Dustin Reid said.

"The pandemic has really taken away from the seasons I'm sure they envisioned playing," Reid said, "so tomorrow we'll be playing our best volleyball for them."

First serve for Saturday night's game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with Senior Night taking place just prior to first serve. All other Rams varsity teams will also be playing at home tomorrow for Super Saturday. You can reserve/purchase tickets online for Super Saturday, which will give you an all-day pass to tomorrow's games at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. You can also tune in live at OUA.tv.
