Rams dominate Excalibur 3-0 for first win

TORONTO - The Rams women's volleyball team looked confident and composed Wednesday night in their home court win against the Trent Excalibur. This is the team's first win of the season, following a plethora of lengthy sets and close games all year.

The Rams gained a lead early in the first, dominating on home court with statement kills from Katelyn Grasman and Mikayla Sherriffs. At the technical timeout, the Rams were up by six. They kept the energy up for the rest of the set, and the team won the first 25-13.

Starting off the second set, Rams first-year Scarlett Gingera fearlessly opened the scoring for the team with consecutive kills. The Rams took an early lead and ran with it, keeping Trent at bay with two points through to the technical. Senior Samantha Cyrille dove for the ball at one point and managed to keep it alive, resulting in another kill. The Rams won the set 25-9.

The third set saw a more even match on the court. While the Rams kept the lead with tips and kills, the Excalibur trailed behind them, making them work harder to secure the win. It was the team's defence that kept them ahead, though, and confident blocks and saves, and they won the third set to take the game.

Head coach Dustin Reid says he's proud of the team, but he's been proud of them all season.

"They execute everything we work on in practice consistently on the court," Reid says. "They played with a lot of freedom and a lot of confidence tonight though, and that's what snowballed into a win."

The Rams will face the Excalibur again Friday night, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. You can reserve/purchase tickets online or tune in at OUA.tv.
