Women's basketball suit up against rival Blues

TORONTO - The Rams women's basketball team is gearing up for another double-header week taking on crosstown rivals, this time against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

The 1-6 Blues are coming off of their first win over the weekend against the Nipissing Lakers, taking a convincing 75-52 victory at home.

The Rams on the other hand, moved to an 8-0 record this past week with two wins over the York Lions including a dominant 88-47 win on Saturday.

The blue and gold enter this week as the top-rated defensive team in the OUA, ranking first in defensive efficiency and allowing the least amount of points per game at just 49.5.

On the other end of the floor, the Rams have continued to be clinical from beyond the arc, shooting 200 three pointers (2nd most in OUA) and converting 33% of the time (2nd in OUA). Rachel Farwell and Marin Scotten, two of the best 3-point shooters in the OUA during the 2019-20 season, have both made over 1.5 threes per game this season while each shooting over 30%.

The Blues defence will have lots of players to worry about however, as forward Jama Bin-Edward is coming off of a 20 point performance and guard Mikeala Dodig also shoots over 41% from the field and over 31% from deep.

What the Rams will have to look out for this week is the Blues' rebounding and their ability to get to the free throw line. The Blues have been able to tally more rebounds and free-throws per game than the Rams this season, while shooting at a higher percentage from the line.

The Blues will likely look to play through second-year guard Lauren Boers, who put up back-to-back 16 point performances (team-highs) this past weekend.

The teams will battle it out this Wednesday, February 16 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at 6 p.m. and will re-match at Toronto's Goldring Centre on Saturday, February 19 at 1 p.m.

Tickets for Wednesday's game are available here. The contest at Toronto on Saturday will be closed to spectators.
