TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold are proud to announce their selection as host of the 2024 U SPORTS men's hockey national championship.
The U SPORTS selection committee made the announcement Monday afternoon.
"We are delighted to be selected to host the 2024 U SPORTS men's hockey national championships. Our men's hockey team is among the best in the country," said Executive Director of Athletics & Recreation, Dr. Louise Cowin. "With a new university name, a new team name, it's an exciting time for us to host another championship in the Mattamy Athletic Centre."
The University Cup championship will be held in the Mattamy Athletic Centre arena, below the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens domed ceiling, and will be the fourth national championship hosted at TMU. The exact dates of the tournament have yet to be determined.
"The TMU Bold men's hockey team looks forward to showcasing our program on the largest stage and sharing this experience with our stakeholders, the TMU students and Toronto community," said Bold head coach,
Johnny Duco.
The Bold men's hockey team is coming off their best ever finish in the 2021-22 season, earning the OUA bronze medal and finishing fourth at the U SPORTS national championship - the team's first appearance on the national stage. The team has become a perennial contender and has spent all of the current season so far ranked in the Top 10 national rankings.
"Our group is honoured for the opportunity to compete on our home ice and look forward to continuing to develop our group in preparation. We have one of the best facilities in the country and I am so thrilled to showcase all that TMU has to offer," added Duco.
TMU has also hosted the 2015 CIS men's basketball Final 8 championship, the 2017 U SPORTS women's volleyball national championship, and the 2019 U SPORTS women's basketball Final 8, all at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Bold will announce further details about the 2024 U SPORTS Men's Hockey championship in the coming months.
