WATERLOO — After falling into a two-goal deficit, the TMU Bold men's hockey team was never able to work their way back, as they fell 4-3 to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night.
The Golden Hawks took the two-goal lead early in the second period off of Adrian Nabuurs' third goal of the season. From there, the Bold and Golden Hawks traded goals, but TMU was unable to find the equalizer — despite tallies on the night from William Portokalis, Aleks Dimovski and Kevin Gursoy.
With TMU trailing by two throughout the final 15:26 of regulation, it wasn't until the 0:52 mark of the third that Gursoy trimmed the Laurier lead to one, which was ultimately too little too late for the Bold's comeback bid.
Despite their third-straight loss, the Bold remain in second-place in the OUA West division. TMU holds an 8-3-1 record, with just four games remaining before the holiday break.
With the win, the Golden Hawks moved to 5-6-1.
In other game notes, Dimovski's goal was his first of the season and second of his career in the program. Garrett Forrest made 31 saves on 35 shots on goal. Gursoy was the lone member of the Bold to record a two-point night, with a goal and an assist. Waterloo product Chris Playfair tallied an assist — his seventh of the season — in his homecoming. Playfair has nine points through 12 games, just two points off his 11-point season-high set last season.
The Bold are back in action next Thursday night against the Brock Badgers at Mattamy Athletic Centre in a battle of two of the OUA West's best. The Badgers currently hold an 8-3-0 record — good for third in the division through 11 games. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
