Bold defeat Blues in late 1-0 victory, add to win streak

TORONTO - The Bold men's soccer team's hot streak continues after a last-minute game-winning goal against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday afternoon. The team now posts a 6-2 record and a five-game win streak more than halfway through the regular season.

The first 89 minutes of the match were uneventful. The Bold shared even possession with the Blues for most of the game, despite creating more chances at the net. The team mustered 14 shots and seven shots on goal, while Toronto managed 10 and three, respectively.

Tensions between the teams built up on the pitch as they remained scoreless throughout the game. The Blues accumulated 16 fouls, nearly twice as many as TMU.

Finally, down to the 90th minute, midfielder Justin Santos netted the game-winning goal off a penalty kick, giving the Bold the victory.

Santos said that while scoring felt good, the win is what mattered most to the team.

"At the end of the day, the win was all we wanted and I couldn't have scored that goal without Luca getting the penalty and my team's support," he said.

Head coach Filip Prostran said he had anticipated a close game.

"No matter who's ahead in the standings, it's always close between us and Toronto. Two days ago when we beat them three-nil, it was still tight," Prostran said. "But the guys showed great character today."

Saturday's victory at Varsity Stadium was the first of the Bold's five-game road trip. The team will look to continue their win streak next weekend, when they head up to North Bay to face off against the Nipissing Lakers. Kickoff is set for 2:15 p.m. and you can tune in on OUA.tv.
