Baseball extend win streak to seven

TORONTO - The TMU Bold baseball team kept the momentum going this past weekend, taking all four games against the Toronto Varsity Blues and York Lions, respectively. The Bold entered the weekend winners of three straight and with the postseason right around the corner, the group didn't think twice of elongating that momentum.

GAME 1 & 2 vs. TORONTO

Cold weather greeted the Bold's final set of games with cross-town rivals Toronto, but nothing compared to the frost that accumulated on the group's bats through the opening innings of the day's first matchup.

In their first ten at-bats, the Bold were victims of eight strikeouts to compliment their lack of baserunners early on. The lack of offence did not affect the Bold's starter in Callum Wilson who continued to pull his weight in the game's immaculate pitching duel.

Wilson would go on to finish his last dominant outing of the regular season with four strikeouts, tiptoeing out of danger numerous times to keep the game scoreless.

The perfection on the bump however would only live on for so long as TMU's first baseman Wil Nenadovic stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning and efficiently found a hole on the right side of the Blues defence to cash in the go-ahead run.

The sole run was all the Bold needed in picking up their first ever victory over their rivals, extending the group's winning streak to four games.

The Bold would go on and extend their winning streak to five following their 6-1 victory in game two. As far as offence was concerned, the group quickly flipped the switch and exploded for half a dozen runs in the contest, but none more memorable than catcher Alex Guest's RBI double in the bottom of the second inning.

From catching the team's first perfect game in school history, to coming up in the clutch against the reigning champions, the second-year catcher has been immensely productive on both sides of the dish over the last two weeks.

Clutch hits quickly became the difference maker throughout the Saturday affair as the Blues squandered a pair of chances with the bases juiced before scoring their one and only run of the day.

GAME 3 & 4 at YORK

Going for the weekend sweep and with all the momentum on their side, the Bold entered Sunday looking to not just sweep the weekend, but to take all four regular season games from the home-sided York Lions.

Although drawing first blood, it would be the Lions that led by a 4-3 score in the bottom of the third inning following a pair of timely hits to drive runners in.

The Bold matched the Lions score in the top of the fifth inning following a hit parade that put the TMU side in the driver's seat. The blue and gold kept the line moving in the top of the sixth inning as well, racking up three more runs before closing out the first game of the day.

The second and final contest of the weekend followed the same theme as the first, with the Lions jumping out to an early 3-1 lead over the Bold.

TMU chipped away at the deficit before shattering the Lions lead once more, rallying for five consecutive runs in the top of the fifth inning.

One more run, and a stellar pitching performance by rookie Lucas Dirienzo would separate the Bold from picking up the season sweep over the Lions by an 8-3 score. Ryan Ricci would take the player of the game honours in the second matchup following his two hit, two run performance. Rookie Armaan Memari would register four hits in the team's 10-4 win in game one to cap off a wild offensive performance throughout the weekend.

With the regular season all wrapped up, the Bold rest their sights on the region's top prize, kicking things off with a playoff matchup against the Lions next Friday. First pitch is set for 1:00.
