Nationally ranked Gaels blank Bold in Kingston

KINGSTON - The search for offence continued for the Bold women's soccer team during their Friday night affair with the Queen's Gaels, falling 5-0 to the third-place side at Richardson Stadium.

Queen's dominance would go uninterrupted and untouched throughout the match as the team extended their streak to 11 games without a loss.

The Bold's penultimate game of the regular season began to unravel for the Toronto side throughout the early stages of the first half. With the defensive zone becoming a familiar place for the group, the Bold conceded a pair of goals to the best offensive corps in the league just minutes apart.

Jenna Matsukubo kicked off the scoring by beating goaltender Abby Harrison in tight of the goal, punctuating a well-timed pass from Cecilia Way. Teammate Raya Athwal doubled Queen's lead just moments after with a convincing finish from outside the box.

Striking the ball on her left side, the third-year winger powered the back of the net with conviction en route to setting a new career high in goals.

On the other side of the ball, it was a poor offensive effort from the Bold - a side that has struggled to find goal support away from home. The group's first shot of the evening would come in the 40th minute off the foot of Vittoria Gallivan but would fail to hit the mark, capping off a pedestrian set of 45 minutes for the visitors.

The break, however, would only worsen the uphill battle for the Bold as Queen's picked up right where they left off on the score sheet. Mattie Strickler added another dent in the scoreline with a tally in the 49th minute to grow her goal total to eight on the season.

Way would improve on her first half assist just moments later with a goal of her own, with Marrisa Gravel adding another tally in the 83rd minute to bring a solemn end to Queen's scoring parade.

With the loss, the Bold extended their winless streak to six games - their longest drought this season. The depleted offence has been a leading contributor to the group's lack of success down the stretch, mustering just three goals during that span.

TMU will look to close out their regular season on a high this Sunday against the Carleton Ravens. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Ottawa.
