Greg DiTomaso signs with AHL's Hershey Bears

TORONTO — Greg DiTomaso of the Rams men's hockey team has signed with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Hershey Bears, the team announced Saturday. DiTomaso has been assigned to the team's East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays. The Bears (and the Stingrays) are affiliated with the NHL's Washington Capitals.

Rams head coach Johnny Duco confirmed that DiTomaso will not be returning to the program and will remain in the AHL and ECHL for the remainder of the season.

A staple of the Rams blueline, DiTomaso has appeared in 89 games across four seasons, scoring 16 goals and adding 54 assists. A product of the Ontario Hockey League, the Etoicoke native led the OUA in points amongst defenseman during the 2019-20 season and was named to the OUA's All-Rookie Team. Internally, he was named the team's MVP during the 2019-20 season and was a finalist for the Ryersonian Male Athlete of the Year Award that same season.

"We love DiTo and are super happy for him," Duco said. "We are looking forward to closely following his professional career."

Regarded as one of the team's most impactful veteran leaders, DiTomaso previously appeared in camp with the AHL's Utica Comets (an affiliate of the New Jersey Devils) and briefly signed with Utica's ECHL affiliate, the Adirondack Thunder, in October. Additionally, he practiced with the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 30, 2021.

As of the start of the 2021-22 season, DiTomaso had the 17th most assists in Rams history, and was first in that category among active players. In 15 playoff games, he racked up eight assists.

"He's the perfect example of a player that came to our league and got better," Duco added. "He's a great teammate and someone who will be missed."

The Rams wish to extend their best wishes to DiTomaso in his professional career.
