Rams sweep Sunday series with York

TORONTO - After a rainy day and a cancelled game due to the conditions, the Rams faced the York Lions once again and were hoping to win both games of the doubleheader.

Game 1: Rams 8, York 4

The Rams were pitching first this game as Noah Falkenberg took the mound against the York lineup. Falkenberg walked two batters and was then relieved by Francesco Giordano. On his first pitch, York was able to bring home a run and on the next pitch, two more. A catch in centrefield finally ended the top of the first, with York leading 3-0.

In the bottom of the first, Domenic Gonzalez, Rob Mannella and Antonio Salatino all walked and had the bases loaded for the Rams. Matthew Tohana's line drive passed first allowed Gonzalez and Mannella to score 2 runs for the team, leaving the inning at a score of 3-2.

York answered with a home run in the top of the next inning, while in the bottom of the second, Josh Thomas brought in Matteo Forgione to keep the Rams only one run behind.

Both teams were quiet for the next two innings with no runs scored and both teams still anxious for the win.

Devon Capitao batted first in the fourth inning for the Rams, making it to first base. Wil Nenadovic reached with a hit by pitch. Josh Thomas hit the ball just far enough to bring in Capitao, tying York 4-4 and ending the inning.

Will Muhallin continued to pitch since the top of the fourth, throwing the ball accurately to get 2 strikeouts in no time. Ryan Bando took over and he too got the last strike out without breaking a sweat.

Josh Thomas in the outfield made great plays in the top of the sixth to keep York from scoring any more runs.

When the time came for the Rams to extend their lead, Stephen Prokopich made it to first, and Thomas Markus took his place as a pinch-runner. The next hit went straight to the outfield, bringing in Markus. The Rams continued to rack up runs with two and another one by Domenic Gonzalez to get the dugout on their feet, ending the game 8-4 and a big win for the Rams.

Game 2: Rams 8, York 2

Rob Mannella opens the second game for the day, making it an easy two strikeouts and a throw to first base for the third out in the first.

Domenic Gonzalez hit the ball to centrefield as he got a single. Stephen Prokopich's at-bat got him to second base and Gonzalez to third, close to scoring the first run for the game. Ryan Ricci aids the boys on base, as Gonzalez gets the first run and Prokopich brings in the second. That ends the inning for the team with a 2-0 lead over York.

The team was energized and on a roll in the second inning with Daniel Cote, swinging fantastically to get the ball into right field. The next three batters walk, which allows Cote to run home. A hit by Antonio Salatino allowed two more runs, and a last hit by Devon Capitao brought in Ryan Ricci and Salatino to continue to extend the lead 7-0.

Matteo Forgione relieved Manella, however, allowing York two runs in the top of the third inning.

Gonzalez had the chance to bat against York again not knowing what was in store for him. Smashing the ball right over the fence in centrefield, he scored the Rams first home run this season.

Thomas Markus, Daniel Cote, Austin Ansonen, and the rest of the line up continued to put up a fight, not letting York score any more runs against them.

Trevor Carter pitched the top of the sixth inning, with the infielders and outfielders putting in all their effort and energy to keep going strong.

Closing pitcher Max Dieks ended the game in the seventh inning with yet another win for the Rams leaving the team proud and overjoyed.

With a 4-3 record, the team looks to not go down without a fight as they take on the undefeated Varsity Blues next weekend.
