Rams drop opening game of series against Lions

VAUGHAN, Ont. - On a cold and windy fall day, the Rams baseball team was back on the diamond to face the York Lions.

Game 1: York 7, Rams 3

York had the opportunity to pitch first, ending the inning quickly by striking out the first three batters in the Rams lineup.

Justin Stonkus was the first pitcher to face the York batters, unfortunately struggled with command by walking players either on a full count of balls or a hit by pitch. With runners on base several times in the inning, York brought in four runs in total.

In the top of the second inning Antonio Salatino hit a line drive past third base and got to first base. At Stephen Prokopich's at-bat, he hit the ball well into centrefield, bringing Salatino home to secure one run for the Rams.

York answered with another run, making the score 5-1. Catcher Sam Turcotte, however, made a play to first base, stopping York from scoring any more runs to end the inning.

Logan Kerry was on the mound for the fourth inning when York hit one over the fence for a home run. York was up 6-1 over the Rams.

The next two innings were quiet for both teams as they racked up outs.

As the top of the seventh inning came around, Sam Turcotte walked to first and then successfully stole second while Ryan Ricci was batting. Antonio Salatino hit an RBI, securing two more runs for the team.

The coaches put in Mark Rizzotto to pitch the bottom of this inning. An error on the field allowed York to score another run, leaving the score at a final of 7-3.

The Rams are now 2-3, but still have games to play against the York Lions to see if they can win the series.

Game 2: Postponed

Field conditions became unplayable due to rain in the area, so the game was postponed. A new date and time is still to be announced.

The Rams will be back in action against these same Lions on Sunday afternoon.
