Women's basketball looks to remain undefeated against Ridgebacks

TORONTO - The Rams women's basketball team look to hold onto their undefeated record this week in back-to-back games against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.

Coming off of a bye week, the well-rested Rams will head to Oshawa looking to build on their 3-0 start to their OUA season.

The Ridgebacks, on the other end, are 1-5 this campaign, with their lone win coming in their season opener against the Laurentian Voyageurs. Playing in only their second ever season as a program, the Ridgebacks most definitely look stronger than the squad that went 1-21 in their inaugural campaign in 2019-20.

After splitting results against the Voyageurs, the Ridgebacks were faced with the difficult task of playing the nationally ranked Ottawa Gees and the Carleton Ravens in back-to-back weekends. Unfortunately for them, the Rams also come into this matchup ranked No. 8 in the nation and have the top ranked defence in the OUA, allowing just 48.3 points per game after three games.

The Ridgebacks will look to their leading scorer and second year guard/forward Dalyssa Fleurgin to generate offence, as Fleurgin is averaging 9.2 points per game this season and scored 10 points in their most recent game against the Ravens.

The Rams will also have to keep their eye out for guard Jolesha Allen-Brown, who scored 12 points against the Ravens in their last game and scored a team-high of seven points against the Rams in their sole matchup in 2019-20.

When looking at the Rams' top-ranked defence, it can largely be credited to Rams head coach Carly Clarke's philosophy of a high-pressing, high-motor defence. Rams guards Mikaela Dodig and Stefanija Mrvaljevic lead the defensive charge and it is clear that the two have not only contributed a significant amount to the Rams offence, but their defensive work-rate is what makes them such valuable pieces for the Rams.

Heading into this week, Dodig leads the Rams with 17 points per game and will look to continue to push the pace and lead the Rams to two more victories on the road.

The Rams and Ridgebacks will tip off this Wednesday at 6 p.m. and again this Saturday at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Ontario Tech's Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre, and will also be available to stream on OUA.tv.
