Rams blank Voyageurs, secure fifth straight win

SUDBURY, Ont. — In an effort to maintain their lead atop the OUA's Central division, the Rams men's soccer team travelled to Sudbury Friday, where they blanked the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-0 en route to their fifth straight win.

Laurentian goaltender Francesco Tosini made a pair of early saves in the first half, denying Faisal Ghaffur and Luca Di Marco in the sixth and eighth minutes, respectively, to keep things scoreless. But, in the 39th minute, the Rams got on the board thanks to Jacob Carlos' second goal of the season.

In the second half, the Rams extended their lead when Justin Santos scored his fourth goal of the campaign in the 67th minute, which would prove to be too much for the Voyageurs, who fell to 2-5-1 on the season.

Throughout the match, Kai Martin, Christian Westlaken, Ghaffur, Santos, and Carlos were issued yellow cards, while the Voyageurs did not have a shot on goal throughout the entirety of the match. The Rams, by contrast, had 16 shots in total, seven of which went to the net.

With this victory, the Rams have strengthened their grip on the Central division with 18 points.

Ahead of their crucial battles against the McMaster Marauders at the end of the month, the Rams will return home to Downsview Park on Sunday, where they'll host the Voyageurs for a 3:30 p.m. matinee.
