Rams land Elijah Roye as first signing in 2021 recruiting class

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's basketball team is excited to announce Montreal, Que., native Elijah Roye as the first signing of their 2021 recruiting class.

The 6-8 athletic forward joins the Rams from The Carmel School, a preparatory school in Ruther Glen, Virginia where Roye spent two seasons. As well as reaching the State Championship with his team this past season, Roye received both Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player awards during his years with The Carmel School.

Prior to his time in Virginia, Roye played for reputable Montreal AAU program Sun Youth from 2016-18.

"We are excited to have Elijah join our program after two years of prep school in the U.S.," says Rams head coach David DeAveiro. "He comes to us from a good program and will fit in nicely with our team. He will bring some size and athleticism to our team."

Roye describes himself as "very hardworking and dedicated to my craft. I will put 100% effort into my team's success and making my team, family."

Roye has been described by multiple basketball outlets as a player with a high motor, one who runs the floor very well and a player whose athleticism makes him highly versatile defensively.

As a Beta Club member through high school (Honour Society), Roye will be pursuing Ryerson's Business Management program.

Roye expressed that he chose Ryerson as his next step because of its "great campus and program and [the] coaches made me feel at home."
