TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams men's hockey team is pleased to announce its first recruit of the 2020-21 class in Elijah Roberts.
Roberts, a native of Brampton, Ont., joins the Rams after a five-year career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The 5-9 forward spent the last three seasons with the Niagara IceDogs and served as an assistant captain. Roberts started his OHL career with the Kitchener Rangers where he played two seasons.
Throughout the course of his major junior career, Roberts compiled 108 points, primarily as a play-maker with 85 career assists.
"As an athlete I believe I am a leader; I am always one of the hardest working players and give it 110% every time I am competing. I am a fast, creative player that plays a two-way game and likes to contribute at both ends of the ice," said Roberts.
In 2016, Roberts represented Team Canada at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, a year after winning a gold medal at the U17 World Championships for Canada.
The newest Ram will enter the RTA: Sport Media program in September, and is ready to make his mark at Ryerson.
"After looking at the program and researching the university, I felt it was the best fit for me and my future. Ryerson is known as one of the most respected universities in all of Canada with high academic praise and excellent programs. Along with that, they also have a premier hockey program. Year to year the hockey program is always competitive and after speaking with coach (Johnny) Duco and hearing what the school is all about, I fell in love with the school and knew that I wanted to be a Ryerson Ram," added Roberts.
