SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Ryerson's
Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) dropped a career-high 30 points in 25 minutes as the Rams topped the Algoma Thunderbirds 84-63 Sunday afternoon at the George Leach Centre.
The win over Algoma marked the team's final road matchup of the 2019-20 regular season.
The Rams set the tone of the game in the opening quarter, netting 19 points and leading Algoma by 11. Scotten led the Rams with eight points after 10 minutes.
Ryerson continued to extend their lead in the second and wrapped up the first half with a 39-25 lead.
The third quarter brought a more balanced matchup between the two sides, as the Thunderbirds fought to bring the game back within reach. Ryerson and Algoma both dropped 22 in the quarter but the Rams continued to lead 61-47 heading into the fourth.
The Rams would score 19 or more points for the fourth straight quarter to wrap up the contest, holding off the Thunderbirds' advances to earn an 84-63 win in the game.
The team's consistent play was highlighted in the game's box score; Ryerson sunk 33 of 68 field goals on 49 percent shooting. Scotten led the team with 30 points and 10 rebounds in her sixth double-double of the season, while fellow guard
Hayley Robertson (Toronto) notched a double-double of her own with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The win over the Thunderbirds sees the Rams take over the first position in the OUA Central. If the team is able to pull out wins in their final two games of the season, the Rams will cap off the year as division champions and receive a bye through to the OUA quarter-finals.
The team will return home to round out their regular season campaign, set to host the Nipissing Lakers and the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday and Saturday evening at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
