PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -Â The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team took down the Trent Excalibur in four sets (25-14, 21-25, 25-14, 25-22) in their last away match of the regular season on Saturday evening.
This win also guarantees the Rams a top-three OUA East seed going into the playoffs, as the Nipissing Lakers dropped a 3-0 match against the York Lions, the Rams' next opponent.Â
The Rams went on a tear to open the match, tallying 13 total kills in the opening set with just a single error on 24 attempts. The first set ended quickly as the Rams took it 25-14.
The Excalibur bounced back in the second as they out-killed the Rams on fewer attempts. The Rams also made eight errors in the set, which was a game-high for them. Trent went on to equalize the match and took the second 25-21.Â
The Excalibur certainly would not be happy with how they came out after a second set victory, as they recorded 11 errors with just eight kills in the third set. The Rams breezed by as they took it 25-14.
The fourth set was relatively even on paper, but the Rams seemed to have been in control and kept their lead throughout the set. They wrapped up the match by taking the fourth set 25-22.
The Rams looked the better team in Peterborough, as they managed to keep their error tally relatively low with 13, as the Excalibur doubled their tally with 26.Â
The Rams were led by none other than
Xander Ketrzynski (Toronto) who had a team-high of 13 kills. A standout from the Rams, however, was sophomore middle-blocker
Omari Young (Toronto), who had a career-high of eight kills against the Excalibur. Fellow middle-blocker
Riley Anderson (Cambridge, Ont.) also tallied eight kills, which ties his career-high from last season.
Ryerson will be back on home court next weekend against the York Lions.Â
