Rams head to Ottawa for Critelli Cup semifinal

TORONTO – After their win against the Queen's Gaels in the quarter-finals, the Ryerson Rams head to Ottawa to face the Gee-Gees in the Critelli Cup semifinals on Wednesday. This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season, the first one going to the Gee-Gees 74-72.

The Rams will be out for revenge on Saturday after losing a close game back in January against the Gee-Gees. The Gee-Gees led for most of the game off of former Ram Katherine Follis' 18 points and seven rebounds. The Rams were always just short of maintaining a lead, falling short by just one or two points. The Rams produced a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Gee-Gees 18-16. A missed layup and a potential missed call for the Rams in the last minute of the game, cost them the chance to tie it or potentially take the win. The Rams were led by Hayley Robertson (Toronto) who had 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists, and Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) who scored a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Recently named OUA all-stars, Robertson and Scotten were also the stars of last Saturday's tilt with the Queen's Gaels. The Rams dominated early on and kept the Gaels to just four points in the second quarter. The Gaels would go on to outscore the Rams in the second half, but the Rams' lead would be too great for the Gaels to make the comeback. Robertson had 23 points, five rebounds, and nine assists, while Scotten scored another double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. The Rams have been a strong offensive team and looking forward they know they will just have to execute well on the game plan.

The Gee-Gees are also coming off a 57-48 win against the Carleton Ravens in their quarter-final matchup. The Gee-Gees pulled an early lead but would be kept to only eight points in the second quarter, giving the Ravens a two-point lead heading to the half. A strong second half, where the Gee-Gees outscored the Ravens and kept them to just nine points in the fourth, led to their ultimate win. Angela Ribarich led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Brooklyn McAlear-Fanus scored a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams know how to shoot the ball and as the saying goes defence wins championships, which will be key in this game. The Gee-Gees have quite a few bigs, so the Rams are going to have to be careful with their matchups and get the ball to their shooters.

The Rams play the Gee-Gees on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m. ET in Ottawa. The game can be streamed live on OUA.tv. Should the Rams win, they will face the winner of the Brock Badgers versus the Western Mustangs in the Critelli Cup championship.
