Rams add NCAA transfer Tyler Sagl to backcourt

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Burlington, Ont. native, Tyler Sagl to the squad.

The 6-5 shooting guard joins the Rams after playing the 2019-20 season at Marist College, an NCAA Division I program in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Sagl showcased an impressive freshman season at Marist College, averaging 8.5 points over 30 games played, the highest average amongst all MAAC rookies.

Prior to his time south of the border, Sagl played his last two high school seasons at Lincoln Prep in Hamilton, Ont. He was named an Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Second-Team All-Star in back-to-back seasons and was a top-five points per game scorer in the OSBA in 2018-19 (averaging 26-4-3).

Sagl describes himself as a "gym rat" who loves to "encourage the team and to take in as much knowledge as possible to get better."

The addition of Sagl will add great length and shooting to the Rams' already dynamic backcourt, something Ryerson's new coaching staff will surely look to maximize.

"I trust the coaching staff and love the culture that Dave (Coach DeAveiro) brings to Ryerson," says Sagl.

Sagl is now studying in Ryerson's Arts & Contemporary Studies program.
