Rams set to host pair of nationally ranked opponents

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams are back in action this weekend as they face the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees and No. 5 Carleton Ravens on Friday and Saturday, respectively. This is the first time the Rams face these teams this season.

Coming off of their eighth straight win against the Toronto Varsity Blues, the Rams are in high spirits going into the weekend, but this weekend will not be an easy cruise. Up first are the Gee-Gees, who boast a 13-2 record, winning their last nine games in a row. They are coming off of a dominating performance against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, taking the game by a score of 101-34. Leading the team was former Rams player, Katherine Follis, who had 23 points, five rebounds, and four blocks. With Follis now on the opposing bench, this will be an interesting matchup, especially because of how different the Rams look since she was here.

Up next are the Ravens who boast a 12-3 record and are coming off an 80-75 overtime loss against the nationally ranked Queen's Gaels, their second loss to the Gaels of the season. Despite leading scorer Alyssa Cerino's double-double of 26 points, and 17 rebounds, the Ravens could not get past their sudden offensive struggles. Even though they managed to tie up the game at the buzzer, the Ravens were only able to score three points in overtime. The Rams will look to capitalize on Carleton's offensive holes and get revenge on their last season OUA quarter-finals loss to the Ravens.

The Rams have been performing exceptionally well during these past couple of games, but as they face two top teams, they are going to have to be perfect in their execution. It does not help that starter Jama Bin-Edward is sidelined with an injury, but that just means that the Rams' depth will have another chance to shine. They are facing two strong offensive teams, so the Rams will have to focus a lot on their defence and shut down players like Cerino and the Gee-Gees' Brooklyn McAlear-Fanus.

Catch the action at Coca-Cola Court on Friday, January 24 at 6:00 p.m. ET and Saturday, January 25, also at 6:00 p.m. ET. The games will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
