HAMILTON, Ont. — The No. 4 Ryerson Rams stuck out a five set match to ultimately pull out a 3-2 (23-25, 25-12, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9) win over the McMaster Marauders on Friday night in Hamilton.Â
Leading the way for Ryerson was fourth-year captain
Cailin Wark (Georgetown, Ont.) with 18 kills, three service aces and one solo block.Â
The first set saw back-and-forth action between the opponents but the Marauders pulled ahead by two points and capped off the set with a 25-23 win. Ryerson's second set saw a more dominant performance on the visitor's behalf, capping off a 25-12 win with a McMaster service error to tie the match at one.Â
McMaster bounced back again in the third to pull ahead 2-1, but the Rams wouldn't go down without a fight. A dominant effort in the remaining two sets would give the Rams an edge in the tight battle, ultimately taking a 15-9 win in the fifth to seal the deal with a 3-2 victory on the road.Â
Samantha Cyrille (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) both tallied 17 digs through five sets.
Katelyn Grasman (Homoka, Ont.) led the Rams with three solo blocks, adding three service aces and six kills. Setter
Lauren Wong (Scarborough, Ont.) totalled 43 assists in the match.Â
The win over McMaster sees the Rams improve to an 11-2 record on the year. The team will return to action on Sunday afternoon against the Brock Badgers — first serve flies at 2:00 p.m. in St. Catharines.
