TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams swept their season series with the York Lions on Wednesday night, winning 4-1.
"We got some timely hitting,"Â said pitching coach
Jon Rubin, when asked about his team's offensive performance last night.
The Rams pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning.
Matt Tohana doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run,
Sam Turcotte singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run,
Andrew Ciuffreda singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Turcotte, but not without some nifty sliding skills at home plate to avoid the tag on a close play. To cap off the inning the Rams perfectly executed a double steal to add a fourth run.
Mark Rizzotto earned his first OUA victory as a pitcher for Ryerson. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, while striking out two.
When asked about his first win Rizzotto simply said, "It feels good," and later went on to exclaim that "this season I'm looking to turn it around and so far it's paying off."Â
Tohana recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Ryerson.
Logan Kerry started the game for the Rams. He lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while walking one.
Next up for Ryerson are games this Saturday against the Guelph Gryphons and McMaster Marauders at the Pan Am Complex in Ajax.
