KINGSTON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams' offence was unstoppable as they beat the Queen's Gaels 6-1 on Saturday for their fourth win in a row.
Holden Cook (Whitby, Ont.) and
Hayden McCool (Whitby, Ont.) each had a goal and an assist for three points apiece, with Cook slotting the game-winner.
The Rams jumped out of the gate, putting up three skillful goals in the first 20 minutes. The power-play opened the scoring on a tic-tac-toe passing play finishing with McCool's deflection off
Holden Cook's shot. A few minutes later, McCool returned the favour on a dish out front to Cook, who sniped it home from in close. Near the end of the frame, a rush by
Cavin Leth (Taber, Alta.) and
Marcus Hinds (Toronto) left Leth alone in front. The winger made no mistake with a quick forehand-backhand move before sliding it in.
The second saw more of the same as
Marcus Hinds and
Patrick Fellows (Mississauga, Ont.) added two more markers in the first three minutes, making it 5-0. Hinds struck first, firing a rocket of a one-timer on a feed from McCool to the top right corner. Just over a minute later, Cook slid a cross-crease pass to Fellows off a Queen's turnover, who tapped it into the open cage.
Jesse Barwell (Oakville, Ont.) snuck in Ryerson's sixth and final goal on a slot shot in the third.
Garrett Forrest (Ashburn, Va.) had his shutout spoiled by Queen's skater Liam Dunda, who got an unassisted marker just over six minutes into the period. The Rams' penalty kill did their part for the rest of the third as they did all game. Special teams went 1-for-4 on the man-advantage and were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Going 2-0-0 on the road this week, the Rams are back at home soon. The squad looks to extend their win streak on Friday at 7:15 p.m. on Mattamy Home Ice, facing the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
