Rams hoopsters finish first half of season this week

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams play their last two games this week before going on winter break. They face the Toronto Varsity Blues at home on Wednesday, November 27th, for the Battle of the 6ix, then they close out the first part of their season on the road against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, November 30th.

The now No. 5 nationally ranked Rams are coming off their second straight road win this past Saturday, as they defeated the Queen's Gaels 73-66. The Rams had a shaky start on the road losing their first two away games, but they seem to have found their groove, winning their two road games this past week.

The Rams are also undefeated at home, a stat they will look to continue as they face downtown rivals, the Varsity Blues. Toronto won their first game Saturday night as they edged out a winless Ontario Tech Ridgebacks team 55-54. The Rams, who faced the Ridgebacks last Wednesday, defeated them 82-33. If the Rams continue their stout defence and their prowess from beyond the arc, they can add Toronto to the list of teams they have defeated.

The Rams may face a tougher challenge on Saturday in the Golden Hawks who are 6-4 on the season. The Western Mustangs thwarted the Golden Hawks five game win streak last Saturday, handing them a 74-59 loss. Despite the loss, Laurier's Brianna Iannazzo dropped 21 points and is the team's leading scorer with 18.2 points per game, and 182 points on the season. The Rams have just gained their footing on the road so they will need to be extra prepared for Saturday's matchup. They will need to be smart about the shots they take, and their defence will need to be on guard.

Tip off on Wednesday is at 6:00 p.m. at Coca-Cola Court. Tip off on Saturday is at 1:00 p.m. in Waterloo. Catch the action live on OUA.tv.
