Rams take down no. 10 Nipissing

NORTH BAY - The Ryerson Rams wrapped up their weekend road trip with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the no. 10 Nipissing Lakers on Saturday evening at Memorial Gardens in North Bay.

The victory over Nipissing sees the Rams improve to a 6-4-0 record on the year, extending their winning streak to four games.

A relatively uneventful first period saw the Rams keep control of the puck for much of the opening 20 minutes. Ryerson's Erika Crouse (Kirkland Lake, Ont.) would get the Rams on the board with three minutes remaining in the period, taking the pass from Brooklyn Gemmill (Cambridge, Ont.) and netting a shot from the top of the face-off circle. Her first-period power-play goal marked her fifth in just four games, giving her Rams a 1-0 lead over the nationally-ranked Lakers heading into the first intermission.

The Lakers came out hard in the second period on the man advantage, hitting back-to-back posts in their quest to tie the game up at one. The home team would find the back of the net with seven minutes left in the second on Victoria Quace's first OUA goal, squaring up the score midway through the period.

A stretch pass from Ryerson's Mariah Hinds (Toronto, Ont.) sent Madison Lalonde (Blenheim, Ont.) on a breakaway midway through the second; Lalonde would net her second goal of the season with two minutes remaining in the period to give the Rams a 2-1 lead. Ryerson goaltender Rachel Seeley (Ottawa, Ont.) added an assist on the second-period marker.

The Rams held their 2-1 lead until the 13-minute mark of the third when team captain Kryshanda Green (Brampton, Ont.) capitalized on a bank pass from Crouse to put the Rams ahead by two.

Nipissing brought the game back within reach with seven minutes left in the period but never managed to find the equalizer as the clock wound down. The Rams packed up and headed home after earning a 3-2 win over their northern rivals, hitting the road with two wins and six huge points on the weekend.

Seeley stopped 24 of 26 shots in the win over Nipissing, tallying her fourth victory of the season to keep her winning percentage at a perfect 1.000 percent.

Crouse's six goals on the season places her at the top of the OUA's scoring race, currently sitting in a three-way tie with Sydney Davidson (Guelph) and Krystin Lawrence (Waterloo).

The Rams will return home and begin preparations for Thursday's matchup against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
