TORONTO - Another regular season has passed for the Ryerson Rams men's soccer team, and another playoff journey awaits them.
The Rams men's soccer program has been nothing short of consistent when it comes to playoff qualification, having not missed out on the OUA playoffs since the 2006 season.
After finishing second in the OUA East conference for the second consecutive year, the Rams once again received a bye to the OUA quarter-final where they will face the Toronto Varsity Blues who defeated Nipissing in the opening round on Wednesday.
This will be a rematch of last year's OUA quarter-final, which ended in a 3-1 Ryerson win at Downsview Park. The Toronto teams have been almost identical on paper this season, with the Rams tallying just two more points this season, scoring just two more goals and recording the same record as the Blues in their last 10 games.
Ryerson will be going into the quarter-final game feeling quite confident, having not lost to the Varsity Blues in their last eight meetings.
The Rams will look to veteran forward
Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto) who found the net in last year's playoff clash against the Blues, and recent difference-maker
Kyle Laborde-Ayres (Scarborough, Ont.) to give the team much-needed points on the board in what tends to be a strong defensive matchup.
On the defensive end, the Rams are loaded with experienced leaders such as goalkeeper
Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.), and defenders
Alexander Meczarski (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and
Nathaniel Tambakis (Toronto). Consistent defensive players will most definitely be relied upon in this post-season, and Ryerson has no shortage of those kinds of players.
The Rams are set to face the Toronto Varsity Blues this Sunday, October 27 at Downsview Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
