Rams defence looks strong heading into playoffs after close loss to Ottawa

OTTAWA - Despite securing zero shots on goal, the Rams had a few positive takeaways in their 1-0 loss to the No. 1 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday afternoon.

Elisa Lapadula (Brampton, Ont.) was stellar in net, making eight stops as Ottawa poured on pressure all match. Plenty of the Gee-Gees' chances were also spoiled due to Ryerson's tight defensive positioning, forcing off-sides.

The first half ended scoreless. As the top seed in the OUA East, Ottawa was relentless in their pressure. The Gee-Gees earned six corner kicks throughout the first 45 minutes, ultimately to no avail.

Four minutes into the second half, Ottawa's leading scorer Mikayla Morton struck from in close to finally beat Lapadula. Although Ottawa managed to secure 22 total shot attempts and nine shots on goal, their 49th minute marker was the only goal they could muster.

While things may seem lopsided, Sunday's match could have gone differently in an instant. Although clearly poised to play defensively from the start, Ryerson made a few impressive runs, keeping the Gee-Gees' back line on edge.

Sunday's match concluded the Rams regular season play as they finish with a 5-6-3 record. The squad now looks towards the playoffs, with their opening game taking place this Wednesday, October 23rd. An opponent will be determined soon.
