Rams suffer first loss of season in Kingston

KINGSTON, Ont. – The Rams were in Kingston tonight to face off against the Queen's Gaels for their second game of the regular season. The Rams would fall 2-1 to the Gaels despite a late burst in offence.

Coming off a 4-2 win against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday night, the Rams headed to Kingston with a bounce in their step. That would not last though as the Gaels attacked early on, getting the first goal of the game a minute thirty into the first period. First-year forward, Sydney Wilson would get the goal, her first as a Gael, from a turnover that would lead to a breakaway.

The Rams would fire early in the second, right off the draw but a great save by Makenzy Arsenault would keep Ryerson scoreless. Fanny Vigeant (St-Hyacinthe, Que.) would have her own great save for the Rams a couple minutes later as she smothered the puck despite the oncoming Gaels player who ended up in the back of the net.

Around the halfway point, Queen's would strike again on a powerplay goal by second-year defender Nicole Posesorski. Posesorki would get just enough of the puck to steer it into the back of the net as she fell down.

The Rams would get their own powerplay chance late in the second but was not able to capitalize on their chances. The Rams would start the third on the powerplay but no dice.

A lot of back and forth would dominate the third period with some clear chances for both teams. Ryerson would cut the lead in half midway through the third as third-year defender Keelin Farren (Toronto) netted her first of the season. She made a strong shot that bounced off some players to get past Arsenault.

The penalties certainly did not help the Rams offence as they would continue in the third period in what turned out to be a pretty scrappy game. The last three penalties of the third period were all against the Rams. Ryerson would not be able to be able to create any more chances in the remaining time and thus come back home with a 1-1 record.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday, October 23, at 11:00 am ET at the Mattamy Athletic Centre against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
