Rams fall to No. 1 Gee-Gees on Senior Day

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday afternoon in a 5-0 loss to U SPORTS No. 1 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees.

OUA top-scorer Mikayla Morton opened up the scoring for the Gee-Gees in the 25th minute, Emma Lefebvre scored in the 37th minute to make it her seventh goal of the season. Mikayla Morton scored again in the 53rd minute on a PK to add her goal tally to 15. Ottawa found the net once again in the 72nd and 77th minutes, which sealed their 5-0 win.

The Rams seniors that were honored before the match and played their last game at Downsview Park were Anastasia Grekos (Toronto), Katherine Sollbach (Burlington, Ont.), Alex Rodkin (Whitby, Ont.), Maria Poveda (Mississauga, Ont.), Sidnee Richardson (Calgary, Alta.), and Elisa Lapadula (Brampton, Ont.). Rodkin, who has been a Ram for six years, expressed her gratitude towards the program saying "Out of everything I'm most happy with the girls I have met on the team. There has been a lot of ups and downs but one thing I'll always have is the friends I have made here."

A hard-fought game on a special day that seemed more significant than the game's final result. Despite the loss, Ryerson is still sitting in fifth place in the OUA East and seem likely to qualify for playoffs with a game in-hand over sixth place Ontario Tech.

The Rams will head to Ottawa next weekend to face the Carleton Ravens on Saturday and will rematch against the Gee-Gees on Sunday, both games at 1 p.m.
