Ryerson Rams snap UNB Reds winning streak

It took 13 seasons and 48 games, but the Ryerson Rams accomplished something no other U SPORTS men's ice hockey team had done since the 2004-05 season.

The Rams skated to a 4-3 win over the visiting University of New Brunswick Reds in the second game of a non-conference series at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto on Saturday, September 22, 2018. The Ryerson win ended a 48-game winning streak by New Brunswick. The Reds had gone 48-0-0 in non-conference games versus U SPORTS opponents (not including University Cup games).

The streak began with a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the TBAY Tel Varsity Cup (hosted by the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, Ontario) on December 30, 2004 and continued to a 3-0 win at Ryerson on Friday, September 21, 2018.

Ryerson's victory on Saturday is New Brunswick's first non-conference loss to a U Sports opponent since the then named Varsity Reds were defeated 5-4 in a shootout by Lakehead on December 29, 2004.

The other U SPORTS team to defeat New Brunswick in non-conference play since 1999-00 is the Calgary Dinos (3-1, December 29, 2003 at the TBAY Tel Varsity Cup).
