Rams defence dominates Warriors after slow start

WATERLOO, Ont. - The No. 2 ranked Ryerson Rams women's basketball team didn't exactly have the start they wanted in their first road game of the season, but they turned things around and shut the door defensively to cruise to a 61-35 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night.

BOXSCORE

Waterloo got off to a hot start, outscoring the Rams 20-10 in the first ten minutes of action. The Warriors connected on 50% of their shots in the opening quarter compared to just 28% for the Rams.

The second quarter was a complete turnaround, however, as the Warriors went cold and the Rams defence heated up. Ryerson didn't allow the Warriors to record a point while exploding for 20 of their own to turn their ten-point deficit into a ten-point 30-20 lead at halftime.

The second half was more of the same from the Rams defence, allowing Waterloo to score just 15 more points - six in the third quarter and nine in the fourth - to take all momentum out of the Warriors' home crowd. Ryerson really flexed their muscle on the glass, out rebounding Waterloo 55-31 by the final buzzer.

Rams' forward Bronwyn Williams (Toronto) led the offence with a game-high 16 points, while three other players added eight points. Katherine Follis (Toronto) picked up a game-high 10 rebounds.

Ryerson, now 4-0 on the season, will take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
