WATERLOO, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams struggled to produce runs and made five costly errors that led to a sweep at the hand of the top team in the OUA, the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Game One: Laurier 10, Ryerson 0 (8 innings)
The Rams fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-0 loss to the Golden Hawks. Laurier scored two quick runs in the first, on a sacrifice fly by Ryley Davenport and a single by Matthew Komonen.
Ryerson struggled to contain the high-powered offence of the Golden Hawks, however, three costly errors led to seven unearned runs. The Rams used six pitchers, including Dorin Kean making his OUA debut.
Jeff Hunt, Komonen and Rob Cant each had multiple hits, as they led the 10 hit attack of Laurier.
Game Two: Laurier 5, Ryerson 1
Ryerson watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss in game two. Poor defense continued in the second game, as Laurier scored two unearned runs in the first inning and added a run on a wild pitch in the second.
Ben Braun got the win for the Golden Hawks. He went four innings, allowing one run, on one hit and striking out five. Kyle Symington threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the save.
Tyler Hopper drove in the only Ryerson run with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Laurier would add a single run in both the fourth and fifth to put the game away and sweep the Rams.
Coming Up Next: The Ryerson Rams will play in the OUA Championship round robin pool against the Laurier Golden Hawks, the Guelph Gryphons and the Queen's Gaels next weekend at the Pan Am Park in Ajax.
