Max Schafer js entering his 14th year of coaching rugby. Starting as a volunteer at the high school level, he has since polished his craft by coaching with the Ottawa Irish junior program, and more recently as a skills coach and head of the developmental program at the University of Ottawa. He joins the TMU men's rugby staff with a robust amount of experience and expertise.

Schafer started his playing career at Cairine Wilson Secondary School in Ottawa. He moved on to play for his home club, the Ottawa Irish, as a representative of the EORU men's team as well as high profile 7s with the Upright Rugby Rogues and Quebec 7s programs.

Schafer also works in the personal training field and has done so for 10 years. He has a strong knowledge when it comes to training and the mindset around it. He has worked with athletes as they prepare for the NFL combine. Schafer likes to incorporate his knowledge of training with his coaching to help the players become he best versions of themselves.

Schafer is honoured to give back to the game for all it has given to him.
