Want to be a part of the Falcon Team? 

The falcon mascot program is currently hiring performers and wranglers for the 2023-2024 season. All positions listed below are exclusive to Toronto Metropolitan University students. Interested applicants should submit their resume and cover letter to frankiethefalcon@torontomu.ca before October 6, 2023. Only qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews and auditions. 

FRANKIE THE FALCON PERFORMER 

Number of Positions: 4 - 6
Reports to: Adriana Hill, Project & Events Administrator
Rate of Pay: $16.55/hour 

Frankie the Falcon Performers embody and promote Toronto Metropolitan University's school spirit by performing at a wide variety of events to engage with campus staff, students, and surrounding communities in Toronto's downtown core. Performers endeavour to unite students across campus by reflecting the heart and passion of the student body and faculty through a commitment to optimism, community, and the pursuit of excellence through entertainment. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Interact with audiences both indoors and outdoors, leading guests in cheers, parades, etc. while communicating non-verbally in an enthusiastic, uplifting manner. 

  • Sign autographs and pose for photographs with individuals and teams

  • Conduct performer assessments each semester to ensure entertainment quality and performance standards. 

  • Support new and evolving Program initiatives by contributing to the research, ideation, design, scoping, development, maintenance, and enhancement of projects. 

  • Act as a conduit for communication with students and other departmental Administration across campus, promoting the Mascot Program and its initiatives through word of mouth and student engagement. 

  • Attend monthly Team meetings to discuss student involvement, student engagement, and Program initiatives. 

  • Perform the duties of a wrangler when necessary 

Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Non-negotiable: Costume is made to fit someone within a 5’10” - 6’ height range. 

  • Ability to withstand heat and be comfortable in a costume environment 

  • Frequently required to walk, stand for long periods of time, balance, stoop, kneel, sit/stand repeatedly or crouch 

  • Relevant performance experience and/or previous employment with the TMU Mascot Program is an asset. 

  • Experience working cross-functionally and collaboratively in a team environment. Campus groups and activities are an asset. 

  • Excellent time management skills. 

  • Understanding of the Google suite interface and its associated Web applications. 

  • Creative, positive, and motivated personality. 

  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and be challenged. 


FRANKIE THE FALCON HANDLER 

Number of Positions: 3 to 5 
Reports to: Adriana Hill, Project & Events Administrator
Rate of Pay: $16.55/hour 

Frankie the Falcon Handlers embody and promote Toronto Metropolitan University's school spirit by supporting Frankie the Falcon at a wide variety of events to engage with campus staff, students, and surrounding communities in Toronto's downtown core. Handlers endeavour to unite students across campus by reflecting the heart and passion of the student body and faculty through a commitment to optimism, sportsmanship, and the pursuit of excellence through entertainment. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Interact with audiences both indoors and outdoors, helping to lead guests in cheers, parades, etc. while communicating in an enthusiastic, uplifting manner. 

  • Assist Frankie with the signing of autographs and taking photographs for individuals and teams. 

  • Assist the mascot performer in putting on/taking off the costume 

  • Assists with the hiring process, including job description and postings, scheduling and conducting interviews and auditions, selection of successful candidates.

  • Conduct regular inspections of the costume, submitting pieces for both in- and out-of house cleaning and maintenance. 

  • Conduct performance assessments each semester to ensure entertainment quality and performance standards. 

  • Support new and evolving Program initiatives by contributing to the research, ideation, design, scoping, development, maintenance, and enhancement of projects. 

  • Document the Falcon's appearances through photography, videography, and social media when directed

  • Assist in organization of event documentation and the Team Falcon Google Drive. 

  • Create documentation compilation videos and presentations to be used for archival and promotional purposes of the Mascot Program. 

  • Act as a conduit for communication with students and other departmental Administration across campus, promoting the Mascot Program and its initiatives through word of mouth and student engagement. 

  • Attend monthly Team meetings to discuss student involvement, student engagement, and Program initiatives. 

  • Assist Mascot Program Assistant with duties as assigned 

Requirements: 

  • Relevant performance experience and/or previous employment with the TMU Mascot Program an asset. 

  • Experience working cross-functionally and collaboratively in a team environment. Campus groups and activities an asset. 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 

  • Exceptional English language written and oral skills, including public speaking and/or presentations. 

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness. 

  • Understanding of the Google interface and its associated Web applications.

  • Creative, positive, and motivated personality. 

  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and be challenged.
