GUELPH, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (18-25, 31-29, 25-20, 25-19) to the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night.
Darcie Buchanan led the Bold with 11 kills, while
Ayla Cross and
Rayanna Amos-Ross Fisher added nine and seven, respectively. Amos-Ross Fisher was particularly impressive, posting a .545 hitting percentage. Cross also recorded a game-high three blocks, while
Sadie Bird directed the offence with 30 assists. Defensively,
Livia Davenport and Buchanan tied for a team-high 19 digs.
The Bold came out of the gates flying, outhitting the Gryphons in the opening frame and cruising to a 25-18 win. TMU held Guelph to a -.061 hitting percentage while posting a .148 mark themselves, closing the set on a five-point run.
The second set proved to be the turning point of the match, as both teams traded blows and missed opportunities on multiple set points. TMU delivered several clutch kills to stave off Guelph, but the Gryphons eventually edged out a 31-29 victory.
Riding the momentum of the narrow second-set win, Guelph followed up with strong performances in sets three and four, taking them 25-20 and 25-19 to secure the match.
The two teams will meet again at the Gryphon Centre on Saturday, January 31, at 4 p.m. The match can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
